CFO Jimmy Patronis: Victory for Tampa Firefighters in Battle Against Cancer
TAMPA, Fla.— Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis was joined by members of the Tampa fire service community to announce the passage of legislation that provides cancer benefits to Florida’s firefighters. The legislation passed unanimously by the Florida Legislature this year and was officially signed into law by Governor DeSantis on Friday, May 3, 2019.
CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, "It is official: Governor Ron DeSantis has signed legislation to help our firefighters battle cancer–the disease responsible for about 70 percent of firefighter line-of-duty deaths. These heroes selflessly serve and protect us every day. Passing this legislation proves to them that Florida has their back.
"Thank you to the Florida Legislature, especially President Bill Galvano and Speaker Jose Oliva, for their dedicated support for this essential benefit. Firefighters across our state now know Florida is in their corner when they truly need it."
