CFO Jimmy Patronis: 7 Months Since Hurricane Michael and Still No Congressional Relief

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— On the seven-month anniversary of Hurricane Michael making landfall, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis released the following statement regarding the lack of congressional relief funding:

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “It has been 212 days—SEVEN MONTHS—since Hurricane Michael devastated the Florida Panhandle. Families are struggling, but we are still waiting on Congress to take action and pass necessary relief for these communities. Just insured losses alone from this storm total nearly $6.4 billion.

“President Trump came to Northwest Florida with great news this week: he continues to step up and will provide $448 million in new recovery funding. Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Rick Scott, Congressman Neal Dunn and Congressman Matt Gaetz have tirelessly fought for these residents. But Congress needs to take action and a congressional relief package cannot come soon enough. Families in these areas desperately need help now!”

- Congress passed an aid package worth $11.1 billion less than one month after Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
- Congress approved an additional $51.8 billion relief and recovery 10 days after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (in addition to the $10.4 billion approved four days after landfall).
- Congress approved a disaster relief bill totaling approximately $50 billion 74 days after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
