CFO Jimmy Patronis: Victory for Panhandle Firefighters in Battle Against Cancer
PANAMA CITY, Fla. —Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis was joined by members of the Panama City fire service community to announce the passage of legislation providing cancer benefits to Florida’s firefighters. The legislation passed unanimously by the Florida Legislature this year and was signed into law by Governor DeSantis on Friday, May 3, 2019.
CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, "Our firefighters serve our communities without pause. They are the ones who rush into a fire when everyone else runs away from the flames. The Florida Legislature took action this year and made a commitment to our firefighters that we will support them when they battle cancer.
"Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed legislation to help our firefighters battle cancer—the disease responsible for a majority of firefighter deaths. I am proud that these brave men and women will now have the benefits they deserve."
