Floridians,

This week, I wrote an Op-Ed in Florida Politics about how Florida must push back against the IRS’s power grab. Only career government bureaucrats would think that the best way to fight fraud is to vastly grow the amount of access the federal government has to transactions Americans make. That’s why I have asked Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) to brief the Governor and Cabinet on this issue, notify Florida’s banking community of this threat, and coordinate with my office in developing preemptive actions Florida could take to protect Floridians from the IRS. The IRS needs less power, not more power, and we’re not going to allow them to intrude into our personal lives without a fight.

On Monday, I highlighted Semana de Prevención de Incendios, which is observed throughout the week of October 3 – 9, 2021. As State Fire Marshal, I’m committed to ensuring the safety of all Floridians and I’m urging you to participate in this year’s fire safety campaign by educating yourself on the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds can mean the difference between a safe escape – and a tragedy.

Lastly, on Friday, I joined Governor DeSantis in my hometown, Panama City, on the three-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael. While we have made great strides in recovery, with more than $8.5 billion in insurance claims paid, this dangerous storm created a lasting impact that we will never forget. I want to remind Floridians that Hurricane Season lasts through November 30th and I encourage everyone to stay on guard and ensure you’re prepared before the next storm takes aim at our state. Thank you to Governor DeSantis for his unwavering support of the hard-working Panhandle communities impacted by this historic storm.

Have a great weekend.

Atentamente,

Jimmy
