On Wednesday, I hosted a live phone bank at WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa. During the phone bank, viewers were encouraged to call in and check for unclaimed property accounts in their name. In less than 15 hours, more than 1,100 individual accounts were found in the Tampa area worth a combined total of more than $230,000. To encourage Floridians to search for unclaimed property, I kicked off the Holiday Money Hunt statewide last week. It’s the time of year where everyone could use a little extra spending cash, and an unexpected check from the State of Florida could help make things a little brighter this year. It’s free to search and only takes a few minutes! Search right now at FLTreasureHunt.gov.

Lastly, on Thursday, during the Florida Chamber Annual Insurance Summit, I anunció the formation and deployment of two new property insurance fraud fighting squads dedicated to combat property insurance fraud in Florida. The new squads include 13 total personnel with five sworn law enforcement detectives each and are boots on the ground right now in Tampa and Orlando. While my teams put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to hold fraudsters accountable, we cannot do it alone. That’s why we are employing a task force approach with both squads by joining with the Statewide Prosecutors Office, local state attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and the insurance industry to better coordinate our fraud fighting efforts to protect Florida’s insurance consumers.

Have a great weekend!
