On Thursday, I had the opportunity to join Governor DeSantis in Washington y Holmes counties as he announced additional relief for communities impacted by Hurricane Michael. On his first official day in office, Governor Ron DeSantis was on the ground in the Florida Panhandle surveying the damage caused by Hurricane Michael and committing vital resources to help our communities recover from this historic storm. I’m proud that now over three years later, the Governor has not forgotten about the families and businesses impacted by this massive storm and continues to provide the assistance needed to aid in their recovery.

This week, I sent a carta to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) regarding provisions in new rules, allowing debt collection agencies to contact debtors via email, text messages, and even on social media. I called on the CFPB to reevaluate the merit of the provisions, which could lead to fraud and scams by criminals posing as debt collection agency representatives.

Lastly, on Wednesday, I shared with Floridians important fire safety tips to ensure a safe holiday season. It’s vital that you always keep safety top of mind when entertaining, cooking, decorating, and using heating equipment during the holidays. While Christmas trees can be an important part of the holiday season for many Floridians, it is also critical that you properly water and dispose of your tree to prevent possible fire-related incidents.

Have a great weekend!
