NAPLES - A Naples woman has surrendered her license to sell life insurance after being charged with engaging in a systematic scheme to defraud a life insurance company by collecting more than $325,000 in advance commissions.

The Department of Financial Services has entered into a Settlement Stipulation for Consent Order with Guslaine Morisma, of 919 Marblehead Drive. The settlement provides for the voluntary surrender of her license.

Department investigators with the Bureau of Agent and Agency Investigation charged Morisma, 42, with collecting advance commissions from approximately 249 fraudulent life insurance applications, causing life insurance policies to be issued and to lapse due to non-payment of premiums. Investigators also charged Morisma with willful misrepresentation of insurance policies, fraudulent business practices, misappropriation of funds and engaging in unfair or deceptive practices.

Morisma has been licensed as a life agent since 1996.

Consumers are advised to examine insurance documents carefully. If policy documents are not received shortly after purchasing a policy, consumers should check with their agent or insurance company. Questions about agents or insurance policies may be directed to the Department of Financial Services' toll-free helpline at 1-800-342-2762.
