TALLAHASSEE—In a continuing effort to provide timely and important information to Floridians about a variety of financial services topics and to warn consumers about potential scams, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher today announced a new online system that allows Internet users to search an expansive consumer database or track a request for assistance as it is handled by consumer specialists. Los consumidores ahora también pueden buscar las Preguntas Frecuentes actualizadas y las Guías para el Consumidor.

The new system, "Service Point," is available on the Department of Financial Service's website at www.fldfs.com by clicking the "Service Point" icon.

"This system will greatly improve the way consumers receive information they need to make financial decisions," Gallagher said. "A well-informed consumer is less vulnerable to fraud and abuse."

The online database feature of "Service Point" contains information on more than 4,000 financial services topics ranging from home, auto and health insurance to mortgage and securities fraud. Consumers are able to input a question or key phrase which will return a list of related entries. Helpline specialists are available at 1-800-342-2762 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m, Monday-Friday, to answer additional questions.

In addition to searching the online database, consumers may now track a complaint or request for assistance filed with the department. Specialists handling each request update a consumer's file as new information is available. A consumer can instantly view the resolution of any request simply by logging onto "Service Point." A user-name and password is required in order to enter the system.

"Service Point" requires Internet Explorer 6.0, Service Pack 1. A link for downloading the upgrade is available.
