CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the arrest of Angela Augustine, an insurance claims adjuster, for allegedly conducting an $11.6 million automobile insurance fraud scheme. Using access to auto insurance claims, Augustine allegedly reopened numerous claims and issued settlement checks to approximately 326 alleged co-conspirators.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued a demand letter to nearly 90 elected officials and organizations who received campaign donations from FTX, following their collapse. The CFO is encouraging these individuals and organizations not to hide behind the bankruptcy process and return the money if they have not already done so. If effort is not taken, the CFO’s office will begin the process of considering all available legal actions and remedies to hold these elected officials and organizations as well as FTX accountable.

Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis inducted the 2023 officers and new members of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women (FCSW). The Commission was created over three decades ago by the Florida Legislature with the mission of raising awareness and celebrating the contributions and successes of women throughout the state. The CFO inducted the following 2023 officers: Chair Sophia Eccleston, Vice Chair Lori Day, Treasurer Rosie Paulsen, Secretary Claudia Medina Thomas, Member at large Jenna Persons-Mulicka, Member at large Maruchi Azorin, and Parliamentarian Belinda Keiser. The CFO also inducted the following new members: Melissa Stone, Maria Wells, Staci Sims, Kate English, Tina Vidal-Duart and Jennifer Collins. Additionally, the FCSW announced that they will be hosting statewide roundtable discussions to inform communities about the results of their recently conducted survey - The 2022 Voices of Women. The roundtables will occur in Jacksonville, Destin, Ocala, Orlando, Fort Myers and Miami and will provide women with an opportunity to share what matters most to them and highlight resources available through the Commission’s work on behalf of Florida’s women.

Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued a statement following the passage of Senate Bill 214, Sales of Firearms and Ammunition, by Senator Danny Burgess and Representative John Snyder in the Florida House. This legislation will prohibit credit card companies from giving weapons and ammunition sales a specific code to identify their purchases. In September 2022, CFO Patronis promised to take action against credit card companies who target the 2nd Amendment.

DAYTONA, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis announced that members of his Division of Investigative and Forensic Services’ (DIFS) Bomb Squad Team were deployed to Daytona to help ensure safety during the Daytona 500 this weekend. The DIFS’ Bomb Squad consists of 13 Certified Bomb Technicians and three Apprentices. DIFS also has explosive detection K-9s that have been deployed in support of the race.
